Tamara Drew (Stephen Frears). Absolutely pointless drivel. Why on earth did they bother to make this? Can this really be the same talent that made Dangerous Liaisons?
Nightwatching (Peter Greenaway). Beautifully lit and composed scenes, but with absolutely nothing else going for it – unnecessarily confusing and dreadfully boring. A waste of a good idea.
The Limits of Control (Jim Jarmusch). Will test the limits of your patience and permanently damage the good name of tai chi. Poor Isaac de Bankole – how could Jarmusch be so cruel? Not even Christopher Doyle could pull this out of the dumpster.
The Ghost (Roman Polanski). Hugely overrated. Two good sequences in a film that was always going to be hamstrung by its tenuous dramatic premise. I won’t give it away, but when it’s revealed at the end, I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a cop out. Casting Kim Katrall was a disaster.
The Kids Are Alright (Lisa Cholodenko). The kids were alright, but Julianne Moore and Annette Benning delivered really clunky performances. A brave film with a good first act, let down severely by an over-reliance on high melodrama in the second and third acts.
