Had a wonderful day today, which started at 4:45 when my daughter woke up. She must have been too excited about the day. I got a handmade card and a cool t-shirt, went for a walk along the Isis and Christchurch Meadow, baby-shoe shopping in town, an amazing lunch, bit of come down after lunch reading through bids for a tender, but picked up with a fun bath time, watering tomato plants at the allotment and rounding it off with a powerful and sobering documentary by Kim Longinotto and Ziba Mir Hosseini about a centre for runaway girls in Iran. It’s called Runaway and I highly recommend you see it. It shows in heartbreaking detail the repression, desparation and guilt of young girls who run away from families dominated by men – men who in the name of God, Tradition and Honour think its justified to blame women’s behaviour for their own violent transgressions. So in case you didn’t already know it, I officially declare my unequivocal contempt for all religions and systems of social domination, patriarchies and matriarchies alike. The world would be a much better place without these insanities.
