Rube Goldberg Machines (A Post-Script to Fischli & Weiss’ “The Way Things Go”)

As a post-script to my post on Fischli & Weiss’ The Way Things Go, I’ve just discovered what must surely have been their original inspiration: the wonderful cartoons of Rube Goldberg, an American cartoonist who “became well known for depicting complex devices that performed simple tasks in indirect, convoluted ways” (Wikipedia) like this self-operating napkin.
